Actron CP9575 Review

I have had a similar experience to that of other user's who had connection problems. I downloaded the Actron Scanning Suite software and tried to update the tool. This is a mistake - I would highly recommend you do not load this software on your PC. It does not work properly with Win XP (unsigned drivers, for one). The software wound up permanently disabling my scanner. The people at Actron are no help - their only advice was to return the unit now that the Scanning Suite software had disabled the device. The software is essentially poorly written from both a user interface and a hardware connection point of view - terrible systems engineering here. It's like something written in the mid-1980's by beginning programmers. I'll try again using the scanner but will *never* try to use this software again. I suspect Actron is well aware of this weakness but doesn't know how to fix the problem - surprising ineptitude for such a large company. Of course, Amazon is great with their return policy.

1/25/2014 Update: Apparently the software has now been fixed; this is great news since it is an otherwise very nice product. As one reviewer notes below, be sure to get the Scanning Suite software of at least version 4. I changed the original rating to be at least 4 stars now since the software was the main reason for a negative response. Having used this scanner for more than two years, it has always worked well for me reading it directly from the device display.

I had an issue with my vehicle and I was tired of checking with the local automotive store for the code and clearing it when I was running some tests. Got the Actron and saved a lot of time driving back and forth, waiting for help at the store, etc. Now I can check whenever I want, at home, at the gas station, help a friend or family member out. The Actron works well, might be a bit hard to see in direct sunlight, just change the angle, the buttons feel good, not mushy, good response, I can't complain about the speed of the unit and the screen page changes. This is the only one I have extensive use with, I can't say if it is fast, slow, etc. The speed is adequate for me, personnally. If you own a few cars or deal with a few and some older that will then to exhibit issues with codes, I highly recommend owning an auto scanner, it will save a lot of time and frustration.
